Shooting Stars Launch U7 Academy
The Glen Rock Shooting Stars Soccer Club is pleased to announce an exciting new Academy program for our U7 age group players. The academy program, designed to improve individual player development and satisfaction in a less pressurized environment, will replace the Club's old U-7 travel program. The program is open to children ages 6 and 7, born between 8/1/03 and 7/31/05.
The program will seek to help players new to soccer master the fundamental skill of mastering the ball and developing creativity in a more relaxed environment. The Academy program will be run by our primary training partners, UK Elite, a premier soccer training company. The plan is to practice one day per week and play inter-group games on weekends in Glen Rock. The games on the weekend will be small sided (3 v 3, or 4 v 4) rather than the existing 8 v 8 games we play in travel soccer. These smaller side games will give the players more touches on the ball and allow them to develop their skills faster.
The Shooting Stars have extended the deadline to sign up for the Academy program to July 15th and deposits will be due by July 31st. Total cost for the program is $200. If you have any questions abou the program, send an e-mail to Declan Daly at ddaly@gti-e.com, our player development coordinator.
To register, fill out a copy of the registration and medical release forms and mail to 477 Rock Road, Glen Rock, NY, 07452.

FAQs for new parents
A list of questions frequently asked by parents who are new to the Club. If you have further questions, please contact the age-group coordinator or send an e-mail to support@glenrockshootingstars.org.
How much does it cost to join the Shooting Stars?
Costs vary per team, depending on how often they train and the number of tournaments they enter, but annual dues usually range from $500-$700, split between the Fall and Spring seasons. We do over $25 discounts on registration fees for families that have more than one child in the Club.
When do teams practice?
Again, the practice schedule varies by team, based on the coach’s availability and more important, the availability of their trainer. During the week, practices could start as early as 4 or 5 p.m. for the younger teams and as late as 6:30 or 7 p.m. for our older teams.
When do teams play games?
During the Fall, our Boys games are typically scheduled on Saturday, while girls play on Sunday. This means we are not in direct conflict with Rec soccer games. However, our teams will participate in tournaments which may require them to play on Sundays and make-up games may be scheduled on weekends or during the week. During the Spring, both boys and girls teams play on Sunday.
When will you notify parents if their child has made the team?
Each age group coordinator will try to form teams for next year no later than the last official weekend of the season, which this year will fall on June 20. In some cases, they may contact parents sooner.
I thought soccer was a fall sport only?
The Shooting Stars participate in the Northern Counties Soccer Association, which plays during both the Spring and Fall season. In addition, many teams are also active through the winter in indoor soccer tournaments and leagues. At the same time, we also try to accommodate, within reason, children who play other sports, especially during the spring.
